1930 – 2018
Gino was born to Louis and Olga Salvador on October 18, 1930 in Coleman, AB. He attended early school in Coleman until he was 15 and his family relocated to Creston, BC; where he starting working with his dad at Louis Salvador and Son Ltd., supplying concrete, sand and gravel in the Creston Valley. Gino married Donna Lindstrom in 1954. Gino and Donna made Creston their home and raised two daughters there. Gino was active in Rotary and with the local golf club and curling club. He enjoyed salmon fishing, playing cards and attending the “knowledge network” coffee group.
Gino was a respected businessman and enjoyed his time with his many friends and spent summers with family and friends at Cummings Resort on Kootenay Lake.
After Gino’s retirement he and Donna spent many winters in Phoenix and Palm Springs and travelling to various other destinations. Gino and Donna moved to Cranbrook in 2014.
Gino lost his courageous battle to cancer on Monday, October 1, 2018 in Cranbrook, BC. He was 87. Gino will be remembered as an exceptional husband, father and Papa who taught the importance of a strong work ethic and keeping his family close. Our hearts are sad, but we know Papa is resting in a better place.
Gino is survived by his loving wife Donna Salvador; his daughters Debbie Thompson (Terry) and Shelley Sanderson (Mark); his grandchildren Jayme (James), Jason (Breanne), Tyler (Shauna), Krystyn (Adriano), Amy (Jason) and Blake (Lauren); his great grandchildren Mya, Knox, Kaydence, Kamryn and Mary; his sister Loretta Lamontagne and family; his sister-in-Law Peggy Salvador and family as well as a large extended family and many friends.
Gino was predeceased by his parents Louis and Olga Salvador; his brother Rudy Salvador; and his brother-in-law Marcel Lamontagne.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Drs. Rolandi, Wik, King and Shilhan and the nurses on the 3rd floor of the East Kootenay Regional Hospital for their excellent care and support for Gino and our family.
A service for Gino will be held at McPherson Funeral Home in Cranbrook on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers donations to the Alzheimer Society of B.C., #300, 828 – West 8th Avenue, Vancouver, B.C., V5Z 1E2 on Gino’s behalf would be greatly appreciated.
