Georgeta Pricop was born in Puiesti, Romania on September 20, 1927 to Enescu Timoleano and Manda Tigoianu. In her early years, Georgeta worked on her parents’ farm helping out with the many chores that were required of her. Later, she took up the trade of a seamstress. Georgeta had two siblings; her brother George, who resided in Bucharist, Romania, and her sister, Margareta, who immigrated to Australia after WWII.
After WWII, Georgeta fled from Romania with a group of refugees through the then-Czechoslovakia, and into Germany where she met her husband Teador Pricop. They settled in Schwabach, Germany, after WWII, as refugees working to rebuild Germany. There, they gave birth to their two children Elisabet and John.
In 1951 they immigrated to Canada. After working on farms in Ontario, they settled in Timmins, where Ted worked in the gold mines for a few years. From there, they travelled to Toronto where they eventually settled on 33 Glenside Ave; in Leslieville.
For a number of years Georgeta worked as a domestic assistant helping to support her family. Her hard work and efforts allowed them to help Elisabet and John attend university where they received their teachers and financial degrees.
Georgeta, along with her husband Ted, were strong Romanian Orthodox Christians. In their time in Toronto, they helped to build St. Georges Romanian Orthodox Church. They enjoyed many good times at the church and at the Romania Heritage Camp in Hamilton.
After Ted’s early death in 1982, Georgeta met and enjoyed her next 25 years of life with George Oprea, a long-time friend from her church in Toronto. During this time, they travelled extensively to the Caribbean Islands and back to Romania many times. While in Romania, they enjoyed visiting with their family and friends for extended periods of time.
Georgeta loved her 4 grandchildren, Dan and Andrew Panko; Bridget and Kurtis Pricop, and her 3 great-grandchildren Luke and Grace Panko and Pearl Drew.
She was known to be a very generous, loving, and caring person who gave fully of herself for everyone’s benefit. She, along with her great stuffed peppers, cabbage rolls and metiti will be greatly missed.
May God keep you, Georgeta in His hands always. God Bless you!
