George Thomas Cane
Cane, George Thomas “Tom” 93 of Dartmouth, passed away at Victoria General Hospital on Friday November 16th, 2018. Born on October 12, 1925, he was the son of the late George T. Cane Sr. and the late Grace Muriel Birde, Stepson of the late Charles Birde.
Tom proudly served his country during World War II with the Cape Breton Highlanders in the liberation of Holland. He was a machinist by trade and worked in the Halifax Shipyards and Texaco / Ultramar Refinery until his retirement. He was a Life Member and very active with the Royal Canadian Legion, having received the Veterans Affairs accommodation award. For many years he would lead the Colour Party to the Cenotaph at Grand Parade and Camp Hill Veteran’s Memorial Building on Remembrance Day, as well as many other events. He also received the Meritorious Service Medal. He especially enjoyed being Sgt. at Arms at the annual St. Agnes Church Service.
Tom is survived by his wife Margaret (Sullivan), his children Tim (Shannon Doran), Jody (Ed Hogan), Randy (Jayne), Terri, Leah (Vince Beazley) and Tracy (Claude Stymest), eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Atlantic Funeral Home, Dartmouth.
A celebration of Tom’s life will take place on Saturday December 1, 2018, 10am at the Atlantic Funeral Home Dartmouth.
Interment in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens following Celebration of Life.
