Obituary of Frank Ottenbreit
OTTENBREIT, Frank John
October 4, 1927 – October 10, 2018
Frank Ottenbreit of Regina, SK passed away peacefully on Wednesday October 10, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. Frank is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Maureen (née Kelly) and their daughters Colleen Kot (Gerry), Laura Friesen (Blaine), and Kerry Ottenbreit (Phil Symchych), all of Regina, and Sheila Ebbels (Bill) of New Jersey, as well as grandchildren Jennifer Buchko (Jordan), Erin Kot, Kristyn Friesen, Anastasia & Julia Symchych of Regina, Derek Friesen of Australia, Kelly & Will Ebbels of New Jersey, Lendon Ebbels (fiancé Dave Robbins) of New York, and great granddaughter Gabriella Buchko. Frank is also survived by his brother Arnold (Charlene) of Winnipeg, and sisters-in-law Mary Ottenbreit of Medicine Hat and Valerie Ottenbreit of Denver and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by great-grandchildren Annabelle and Zachary Buchko, and brothers Wilfred and Harold.
Frank was born in Grayson, SK to John and Julia (Huber) Ottenbreit. The eldest of four boys growing up in depression years, he was quietly proud to have never been without a job from the age of 15. The majority of his work life was spent in public service with Revenue Canada where he served with dedication and integrity, retiring in 1993. However, his greatest joys centered on the life he shared with his sweetheart, Maureen, their family, and their many friends. They travelled extensively with their children and the GlenGarry group, camping in early years, and touring the wider world later. Among his many interests, Frank enjoyed square dancing, curling, running, carpentry, golfing, bridge, the Riders, spending time at the family cottage at Regina Beach, and singing in the parish Resurrection choir. Faith and family were the cornerstones of Frank’s life, and he lived his faith with conviction and humility. Together, Frank and Maureen were charter members of their parish, regular worshippers, and cherished participants in the Friday morning Mass group.
Frank and his family were so grateful for the outstanding care he received in Emergency and on 6F at the Regina General Hospital these past two weeks. In his own words, you were his angels, and we, his family, thank you!
A Mass of Christian Burial in grateful thanks for Frank’s life will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 15, 2018 at Christ the King R.C. Parish, 3239 Garnet Street, Regina, SK with Rev. Stephen Bill and Rev. Ken Koep co-presiding. There will be a reception in the Parish Centre immediately following Mass, to which all are invited. Private committal to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Frank’s name to the Allan Blair Cancer Centre, Pediatric Unit, or a charity of choice.
