Frank Brix was born in Czechoslovakia. As a young man, he immigrated to Mayo, Yukon to work in the coal mines. Edith joined him from Germany and together they had three children, Ellen, Barbara and Peter. Life was hard, living in a small cabin with no electricity, under extreme weather conditions and speaking no English. In 1962 they moved to Victoria where Frank began his career with Victoria Plywood as a Clip Operator. It was while living in Victoria that Frank developed his love of racquet sports. He played badminton at the Cordova Bay Community Club, tennis in the public parks, and ping pong regularly with friends. He was the first of 3 generations of competitive racquet sports players including son Peter (and his wife Damaris), and grandsons Billy and Andrew Brix. Once he was unable to play himself, Frank delighted in watching his whole family play and compete.
Frank competed provincially in badminton and tennis winning the Langford Tennis Club Gllangcolme mixed doubles tournament several times among many other titles. One of his proudest accomplishments was competing in the Remington Father and Son Tennis Tournament with Peter. After winning the cities, they went on to win the provincials, which qualified them for the Nationals in Toronto almost making it to the worlds in Sweden.
Frank’s grandchildren also include Jason, Myles, and Tyler Martin, Megan and Jamie Laurie, and great-grandchildren Anna and Everett Martin.
Frank was a gentle and kind person and will be missed so much. He left this life the way he lived it – in a quiet peaceful manner.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, November 25th, 2018 from 1-3 pm at 797 Haliburton Rd.
