Evelyn Fricke was born on December 27, 1924 to Aron M. and Maria Goossen Penner. She peacefully passed away on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at Maplewood Manor, Steinbach, MB, at the age of 93.
Her childhood was spent in the Greenland, Manitoba area. She answered God’s call and was baptized, on May 2, 1940, into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite.
On June 1, 1947 she married Marvin Fricke, moved to Michigan, and started their home. Dad passed away July 6, 1999, leaving Mom very lonely. A year ago, Mom moved back to her childhood land into the Maplewood Manor. She loved the care of all the nurses and staff. Living across the hall from her two sisters-in-law was very special to her.
We remember Mom as having a kind and caring heart. She was concerned for us as a family and prayed often that we would all make it to Heaven. By example, Mom taught us to work and even when relaxing she seldom just sat. She was usually working on some handwork to give to someone.
Those left with precious memories are six children: Shirley and Dan Cressmen of Stapleton, Georgia; Ken and Marilyn Fricke of Grafton, ND; Marianne and Mike Litwiller of Ithaca, MI; Ruth and Craig Unruh, Don and Becky Fricke, and Gayla Fricke all of Grafton, ND; 20 grandchildren, 62 great-grandchildren, three sisters-in-law Mildred Penner, Carrie Penner and Rosalie Barkman all of Steinbach, MB.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one great-grandchild and all her brothers and sisters.
Funeral arrangements pending in Grafton, ND.
We as a family want to thank the Maplewood Manor for taking Mom in and letting her spend her last year here.
