Elizabeth Mieko Kawano

It is with heartfelt sadness that the family of Mieko Kawano announce her passing on September 11th, 2018. She will be lovingly remembered by her family: Amy, Don (Linda), Roger (Nikki), Roy, Barbara (Terry), Mona (Howard) and Ellen (Gordon). Sisters Margaret Yamamoto and Jane Wakita. Grandchildren: Eiko, Jamie (Margaret), Elysse, Hannah and 2 Great Grandchildren Charlie, Reiden and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, Kuzio and Ikue Kobayashi, husband Melvan, brothers Matt, Kietchi and sister Florence. Born in Okanagan Center, mom lived her whole life in the Okanagan, working jobs before she married and then raising her family. Mom also was actively involved with the United Church in Winfield until we moved into Kelowna. She will be forever remembered for her giving spirit, to embrace those who came into her life and most of all we will all remember all the great cooking and baking, sewing and knitting that she did throughout her life. Always making sure that there was enough to go around, even if you were just visiting for a short time, out came cookies or something to snack on. Thank- you to the nursing staff at Kelowna General Hospital, Cottonwoods and especially the nursing staff Orchard Manor. Thank- you for showing your care and concern for our mom in her last days. We also thank all the family and friends who came to see mom over the last weeks, especially those who came to see her almost everyday. A family burial will be held at the Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery, next to dad. A Celebration of Life will be held for mom on October 6th, at 12pm at First Memorial Funeral Home, 1211 Sutherland Ave.
