OBITUARY
Elias Anthony Gossen
October 2, 1922 – September 15, 2018
Elias Anthony Gossen, 95 of Halifax, Nova Scotia passed away on September 15, 2018. He passed as he lived – with quiet strength and love for his family. Left to mourn are his loving wife of 59 years, Alice Marie (Arab) Gossen, his children Anthony and David (Jill), his grandchildren Trevor (Jenny), Spencer, Elias, and Angela. Also left to mourn are his sister Marie Mehawej, his brother Pierre, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Antonious Gossen and Naomi (Saleh) Gossen, and siblings Emily Daaboul, Nagib, and Lydia Saleh.
Born in Diman, Lebanon, Elias left for Colombia, South America as a young man to follow his dreams, but always kept Lebanon in his heart. He shared memories of his childhood in Lebanon up until the time of his passing. After 14 years in Colombia, while on a visit to Nova Scotia, he met Alice, the love of his life, and they married and made a life together in Halifax.
Elias gave unconditionally to his family and loved to be surrounded by people, greeting everyone with a smile that touched his eyes and could be felt in the hearts of those he was greeting. Known for his tremendous strength, he was a humble man with a kind gentle soul who took immense pleasure in his garden. Elias was an entrepreneur at heart and enjoyed his time in the family dry cleaning business on Oxford Street for many years. His biggest concern for retirement was losing touch with all the customers who had become his friends over the years.
With a strong faith in God, he continued to put his family before himself, with thoughts for their health and happiness in his final days. Elias will be lovingly missed and never forgotten by his family and friends all over the world.
Visitation will be held at J A Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive on Tuesday, September 18, 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Our Lady of Lebanon Maronite Catholic Church on Wednesday, September 19, 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Our Lady of Lebanon Church’s new building campaign.
