Eleanor Elizabeth Hodgins (nee McKay), 96, of Niverville, MB passed away on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at Morris Hospital, Morris, MB.
Eleanor was born on the family farm near Corning, SK to James and Esther McKay. She was the last surviving child of eight siblings, with two sisters and five brothers.
She was a school teacher in a logging camp on Vancouver Island then returned to SK in various rural schools. In 1947 in the Fairmede District of SE SK near Wawota she met a local farmer, George Hodgins. They married in October 1950 and raised four children; Vernon (Linda), Wesley 1953-2010 (Doris), Ellen (Brent Byggdin), Bruce. Eleanor and George had ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren who were a great source of pride and joy.
They farmed Fair Acre Farm for over forty years, then retired to Kennedy, SK in 1991. In 2014 they moved to Niverville, MB to the Credit Union Manor seniors assisted living facility.
Eleanor was an accomplished cook and avid gardener. She loved baking and tending her flowers. Her care, compassion, kindness and sense of humor will live on in us all. We were blessed to have had her in our lives for 96 years.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank the medical, healthcare and homecare staff in both SK and MB.
The memorial service will be held on Friday, August 10, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Niverville Heritage Centre, 111 2nd Ave S, Niverville, MB. An ash interment will take place at a later date at the Fairmede United Church, Fairmede, SK.
