He served another twenty years stationed at Clinton, Ontario, Ottawa, Summerside PEI, Greenwood, Nova Scotia, retiring in 1968 back in Ottawa. Following his retirement from the Air Force he was employed as a Computer Programmer for Honeywell Computers and TNT Trucking.
Douglas was an avid gardener and loved to play cards, especially Bridge and Cribbage and enjoyed the challenge of a good crossword. Together with Jean, they travelled the world making memories in Australia, New Zealand and his favourite destination, Ireland. Douglas worked hard, loved and cherished life, and he will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to that which mattered to him – the gift of every day and the company of those he cherished.
His family meant everything to him and his legacy will live on in all those he leaves behind.
Respecting Douglas’ wishes, cremation has taken place and his family will honour his memory privately. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rapelje Lodge, Welland or a charity of ones choice.
