Obituary Overview
Lovingly Remembered
On June 24, 2018, our beloved Dad and Grandad passed away peacefully at the Sarcee Carewest Hospice in Calgary, at the age of 85.
Douglas is survived by his son Kevin (Catherine), daughter Nicole (Brent), grandsons Jesse-Dean and Nigel, granddaughters Claire, McKenzie and Makayla; as well as his sisters Joyce and Valerie and numerous nieces and nephews in England. Douglas predeceased his brothers Ron and Vivian, sister Norma and Erika, his companion of 15 years (2010).
Douglas was born on February 8, 1933 in Tregavarras, Cornwall, England and grew up in East Portholland, Cornwall.
He achieved his certification as a journeyman mechanic and joined the RAF in 1952 where he served for 3 years. In 1956, Douglas married Vera and they immigrated to Calgary, Alberta in 1966. He enjoyed a career working at Northland Volkswagen for 25 years.
In his retirement years, Douglas especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and enjoyed many cruise ship vacations with Erika, which took them all over the globe. Douglas was a jack of all trades and had many hobbies which included gardening, carpentry, upholstery or just tinkering with cars.
Douglas’ ashes will be taken back to his home in Portholland where a family gathering will take place at a future date and time.
Thank you to the staff at the PLC Hemotology Department Clinic 1 and a special thank you to Dr. B. Roman for all of his care and attention over the years. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Douglas’ memory can be made to Canadian Blood Services, 1-888-2DONATE or www.blood.ca.
