Janice (Jan) Dorrance Kirkey (née Dorrance), age 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at Grace Dart Long-Term Care Facility in Montreal.
Born in Montreal, Jan joined the WRNS of the Royal Canadian Naval Reserve in 1951. It was there she met her former husband, Donald Kirkey. Jan and Don lived in several cities with the Navy before returning to Montreal for good. Jan was always busy with projects while raising 5 children and working. She loved baking, card games, puzzles, and teaching her children about the importance of family history. Most of all, she loved spending time at her family cottage in Bristol, QC where many happy memories were made. Jan had a generous heart, and there was always room for one more at her table
Jan is survived by her children, Don Jr. (Diane), Joanne (Chris), Robert (Renée), Keith (Diane), Jennifer (Edmond), 11 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
A celebration of Jan’s life will be held on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at 3 p.m., at . Visitation will be held at Maison Trestler, 85 de la Commune, Vaudreuil-Dorion, Qc J7V 2C3, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. (departure for the church at 2 p.m.). Immediate family will attend a private burial at a later date.
