Doris Karutsky
May 22, 1923 – April 27, 2018
Doris Karutsky, beloved wife of Dan Karutsky, passed away at the Yorkton and District Nursing Home on Friday, April 27, 2018, at the age of 94 years.
Doris was born to John and Annie (Petsul) Soyko on May 22, 1923, on the family farm north of Sturgis, SK.
On July 14, 1945, Doris was united in marriage to Dan Karutsky and together they were blessed with five children: Judie, Darlene, Gerald, Connie and Debbie. They farmed 12 miles north of Stenen, SK for 40 years. In 1985, they sold the farm and moved into their new home in Sturgis, SK. In 2012, Doris and Dan sold their home in Sturgis and made the transition to the Sturgis Care Home. After Dan’s passing in 2014, Doris relocated to the Invermay Care Home. In January 2018, Doris became a resident of the Yorkton Nursing Home, where she continued to reside until her passing. Doris enjoyed cooking, baking, canning and gardening. She was well known in the neighbourhood for her wonderful meals, especially her tasty bread, doughnuts and cinnamon buns. She canned countless jars of vegetables, fruit, wild berries and mushrooms, which she added to her wonderful meals and were greatly enjoyed by friends and neighbours who dropped by daily. Her spare time was well spent in crocheting, knitting and sewing clothes for her family, who meant everything to her. Doris had a strong faith in God and a loving heart which was evidenced by her empathy and compassion for others. She loved when Dan would read the Bible daily to her as she worked in her kitchen. She truly made their house a home. She lived by the scripture « Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. » Proverbs 3:5 She will be remembered for her deep faith and devotion and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Doris was predeceased by her parents, John and Annie; her husband, Dan in 2014; son, Gerald (17 years old) in 1967; and her great-grandson, Chase Andrew Kraynick (6 years old) in 2011. She is survived and lovingly remembered by her daughters: Judie (Matt) Bernat, Darlene (Andy) Oystryk, Connie (Brian) Jakubowski and Debbie (Brad) Sweeney; grandchildren: Giselle Frieze, Darcy Bernat, Corelie Heise, Rhonda Bailey, Shawna Stangel, Naomi Paley, Rachel Kraynick, Amanda Daviduk, Taylor Jakubowski, Aaron Sweeney and Carrie Sweeney; and great-grandchildren: Austin and Tavis Varga, Jasmine Wizniak, Hannah and Jolie Heise, Luke and Jeremy Bailey, Chloe and Alex Bernat, Karlie and Bailey Stangel, Everett and Devon Paley, Cooper and Coy Kraynick, Griffin and Macy Daviduk and Joanna Sweeney; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, friends and neighbours.
