Donna Garside

Donna Marie (Morrison) Garside (nee Aschenbrenner)
June 18, 1935 – April 29, 2018
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our mother, Donna Garside, on April 29, 2018, in Nanaimo, B.C.
Mom was born in Watson, Saskatchewan, the oldest of 3 siblings and she became a young mother of 5 active children.
Mom was blessed to have met and married the love of her life, Thomas Garside. Tom was a special man with a great sense of humour. They had over 10 wonderful years together. Mom dearly missed Tom to the day of her passing.
Mom was a social butterfly who enjoyed cooking for the 50 + group; she loved to bless others with homemade soups.
She delighted in feeding apples and carrots to the deer from her deck and she would quietly watch them for hours on end.
Over the years, Mom found love, companionship and joy with her little poodles. She was also a big reader and a lover of word finds. She had a cheerful passion for music, piano and singing. Mom gained pleasure and fulfillment from crafts, some of her favorites were: knitting, crocheting and quilting.
Although Mom suffered with Alzheimer’s for a number of years, she tried to have a good attitude about it. She would often laugh and say “I remember to forget.”
Her faith in the Lord helped her through many difficulties and hardships in her life, and also brought her GREAT JOY!
Donna was predeceased by her parents, Estelle and Joseph Aschenbrenner, husband Thomas Garside, twin brother Daniel, and infant son Kenneth.
She leaves behind to mourn, brothers, Jerry (Anita) Aschenbrenner, Maurice (Marlene) Aschenbrenner. Children, Dennis (Esthela), Renold, David, Janet (Mike), and Judy (Orest). Grand children, Jonathan, Rebecca, Bruce, Daniel, Heather, Tim, Joel, Gary, David, Kevin and Nicole, along with 9 great grandchildren.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
We would like to thank the staff at Nanaimo Seniors Village for the dedication and love they showed our mom over the years. Also, special thanks to Dr. Justin Kingsley and hospital staff for their compassion.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be given to the Alzheimer Society of B.C.
Memorial service will be held July 14, 2018 at ¬¬¬¬¬11:00 a.m. at Eagle Mountain Church in Nanaimo, B.C. 1 Terminal Avenue, Nanaimo, B.C., the back of the Howard Johnson Hotel.
At our Mother’s request, her ashes will be inurned in her brother Daniel’s gravesite in Saint Ann’s Roman Catholic Cemetery, Annaheim, SK.
