Donald Edwin Inder
North Sydney
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, Donald Inder, 91, on Tuesday, December 25, 2018 at the Northside General hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Born June 30, 1927 in Magdalen Islands, he was the son of the late Alfred and Serena (Bowers) Inder.
Don was a carpenter by trade working with Chappell Building Supplies, the Heavy Water Plant, Glace Bay and Nova Aqua. He also operated Burton-Inder Carpentry with his good friend and business partner, Seward Burton for many years.
Don was a talented cabinet maker and finish carpenter. His children have fond memories of them being the envy of the neighborhood as they played with the many toys Don hand-built for them over the years in his basement workshop. A practice he continued for his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was an accomplished bow hunter and avid fly fisherman and enjoyed taking family and friends to his favourite “Black Lake”. He took pleasure in painting, drawing, listening to opera and playing practical jokes on his many friends. Don was a loyal Toronto Blue Jays fan, but also enjoyed cheering for his grandson Terry, during his hockey and baseball games over the years. He was his biggest fan.
Don is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Mildred “Dot” (Witherall) Inder; by his eight children, Diane Ball (Jim), London, ON; James Inder (Cheryl), Calgary, JoAnn Keeping (Clyde), Lois Richardson (Matthew), Terry Inder (Tracey), all of North Sydney; Tracey Inder (Bruno), Sydney, Serena McKenzie (Jamie), Lower Sackville, Jacqueline Inder-McInnis (Blair), Middle Sackville; by his thirteen grandchildren, Donnie, Allison, Tiffany, Brandon, Vincent, Clayton, Dennis, Tara, Niki, Terry, Ashley, Stephen, Amanda and by sixteen great grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his grandson Jason Keeping, daughter-in-law, Diane Inder and a brother Harry Inder.
The family would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Bill MacDonald, Palliative Care and the nursing staff of 5th floor at the Northside General hospital for the excellent care given to Don during his illness.
There will be no visitation by request. A private family service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Centre or the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, North Sydney.
