Diane McGowan
1957-2018
The family of Diane McGowan (Humphreys) of Grand
Bay-Westfield are heartbroken to announce her passing which occurred
unexpectedly at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Sunday, December
16th.
Diane will be truly missed by her loving husband Rick of 33
years, daughter Karen (fiancé Jon MacDonald),
granddaughter McKinley and son Matthew (wife Juliette Cormier). She is
survived by; her mother Helen Humphreys and two brothers David (Barb)
Humphreys (niece Abbey) and Blair (Gwen) Humphreys as well as
several cousins and one aunt. Also bearing heavy hearts are her
extended family; mother in law Blanche McGowan, brother Paul (Roxanne)
McGowan (niece Kali and nephew Jared) and sister Nancy (Dave) English.
She was predeceased by her father, Rev. John Humphreys, brother Barry
and father-in-law, Victor McGowan.
Diane was a graduate of Millidgeville North High School and
was known to be a hard worker early on in her career. She was employed
at various places before putting in 20 years at Centracare Hospital in
Staff education, where she met her husband Ricky, and then 16 more
years at the Saint John Regional Hospital as the Conference
Coordinator. Diane retired in 2016 after 36 years.
While she loved working, she enjoyed volunteering even more
so. Shortly after moving to Westfield in 1985, Diane joined
the Westfield Volunteer Ambulance and this led to 21 years of
volunteer service in various roles including Primary Care Paramedic,
dispatcher, and Administrator. She loved all aspects of emergency
services. In addition to her volunteering, Diane was elected
to the Municipal Council of Grand Bay-Westfield and served 4
consecutive terms with one and a half terms as Deputy Mayor and the
rest as Councillor. She was very passionate about helping others in
her community.
In her spare time, she continued to work hard in her garden
where her and Rick would spend most of their time making their house a
home. They loved travelling together and vacationing places that were
warm and sunny. Diane was a loving and caring wife and mother and was
devoted to her husband and children. She especially loved spending
time with her granddaughter. Diane will be forever loved and missed by
family and friends but never forgotten.
At Dianes request, there will be no funeral
service. There will be a time of visitation with the family
