Obituary Overview
In Loving Memory
IRVING, DESNA VINOLA (nee MUIR) JANUARY 22, 1934 –
SEPTEMBER 9, 2018
It is with heavy hearts we announce Desna passed away peacefully at home in Richmond Hill, on the morning of Sunday, September 9, 2018, at the age of 84. Loving mother of Sharon and Dianne, cherished grandmother of Saida and Daniel, Desna will be missed by all including her sister Norma (Sonia), her brother Douglas, her son-in-law Peter, sister-in-law Ava, brother-in-law Winston, sister-in-law Rose, many nephews, nieces, cousins, and dear friends. She was born in Falmouth, Jamaica, and immigrated to Canada in 1963. Kind, generous and welcoming, Desna always thought of others before herself. She made it her mission to give back. Her career as a nurse spanned almost four decades. Even into retirement she never stopped serving her community, her family and her friends. She was a long-standing member of the Jamaican Canadian Association, as well as a volunteer at the North York General Hospital Senior Centre and Wellspring Community Cancer Support Group. She was an ESL tutor at Immanuel Baptist Church. Desna was dedicated to her family. She strongly believed in the value of education, giving her support to both her daughters, and her grandchildren to pursue undergraduate and graduate degrees. She never missed a graduation. As a breast cancer survivor, Desna personified perseverance, showing the will and the courage to stay strong for herself, her family, and others, during her difficult battle. She generously offered her guidance, support, and even shelter to those who sought her help. Family and friends are invited to visit, and celebrate her remarkable life at the Highland Funeral Home, 3280 Sheppard Ave. E., Scarborough, Friday, September 21, 2018, between 2 – 4 p.m., and 7 – 9p.m. Funeral service will be held at Immanuel Baptist Church on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 11 a.m.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Desna Vinola Irving 2018.
