Delphus Goodine
The death of David Delphus Goodine of Hamtown Corner, New Brunswick, occurred on Friday, March 9, 2018 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in Fredericton at the age of 98. Born in Jacquet River, he was the son of the late John and Ethel Goodine.
Delphus is survived by his children Raymond (Theresa) Goodine of Hanwell, N. B.; Catherine Rosborough of Douglas, N. B.; Clementine Emberly of Cole Harbour, N. S.; Theresa McAlistar of Calgary, Alta.; Eileen (Harold) Jones of Kingston, N. B.; Margaret (Daryl) Daley of Fredericton, N. B.; Clement (Barb) Goodine of Eller’s House, N. S.; Joan (Jean Marie) Boudreau of South Tetagouche, N. B.; Lloyd (Peggy) Goodine of Michichi, Alta; Eugene (Darlene) Goodine of Dunlop, N. B.; Donald (Debbie) Goodine of Wilberforce, Ont.; June Goodine of Estey’s Bridge, N. B.; and John Goodine of St. Albert, Alta. He is also survived by his sister Mary Arsenault of Saint John, N. B., as well as his 34 grandchildren, his many great-grandchildren and his great-great-grandchildren.
Delphus was predeceased by his wife Bernice, his parents John and Ethel, his sons David and Norman, his grandson Donald Jesse, his siblings Sandy, Michael, Sanford, Leslie and Hilda, his three sons-in-law Laurence Rosborough, Jim Emberly, and Brent McAlistar, as well as two infant sons.
Throughout his life, Delphus would pray on his knees every morning when he woke up and again every night before bed, until recent years when it proved to be too difficult. Nonetheless, with his sharp memory, independent streak, sense of humour, and ability to tell a story, one would never have believed he was 98 years old. Delphus will be remembered by those who knew him for his love of the woods, his stories about days-gone-by, and especially for his passion of horses.
The family would like to thank the physicians and staff of 4SE of Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital, as well as the extramural staff and home care workers who helped Delphus during these past few years. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Canadian Lung Association, or to the charity of one’s choice.
A funeral will be held for Delphus on Tuesday morning, March 13, 2018 at the St. Gabriel’s Church in Jacquet River at 11 o’clock AM, with visitations on Monday, March 12, at St. Gabriel’s from 2 until 4 in the afternoon and again from 7 to 9 in the evening. Funeral arrangements are in the care of MacMillan’s Funeral Home, Black Point.
