Obituary of David Keddy
David George Keddy passed away on October 24, 2018 in the Valley Regional Hospital in Kentville, Nova Scotia at the age of 56. David was born in Windsor, Ontario on May 11, 1962 as the third child to Lawrence and Ruth Keddy (Perrier) of New Minas.
He is survived by his parents as well as his siblings which include Karen of Muncie, Indiana; Stephen (Gaye O’Bertos) of Ottawa; Linda (Bertram Meissner) of Kentville; his step-children Michael (Sarah) Gray of Amherst; Jennifer (Gilbert) Sherman and Nicole Gray; his nieces and nephews Matthew and Nicole Cochrane; Christopher Keddy; Calvin and Matthew Meissner; and his grandchildren Ryan Harnish, Kaelyn Gray and Kenzie Crossman. He will also be missed by David’s ex-wife Catherine Pineo and Karen’s ex-husband Jesse Voss.
Having grown up in Halifax, David worked for a carpet cleaning business after high school before starting his own business called About Time Carpet Cleaning. He had said that by using a word that started with an ‘A’ at the beginning in the title, it would ensure that his business always appeared as the first one that a customer would see in the phonebook. In 2005, David moved to Ottawa where he remained until a few months ago. He worked in various positions within different companies in a sales capacity while also working closely with his brother Steve to build a successful contracting business. David always did the best job he could and had unique ways of problem-solving and making improvements. He was clever, creative, artistic and he always enjoyed making things. Like his father and brother, David was a drummer and in his twenties was part of a Halifax based band by the name of Rampant. David was a news junkie, a master of trivia, intrigued about UFOs and aliens, loved antiques and family heirlooms and was very good at games like chess. David loved spending time with his family and he was always there for them.
David loved animals and since childhood enjoyed owning various lizards, salamanders, turtles, guinea pigs, rabbits, fish, dogs and cats. There are many funny stories about David and his pets. David will always be remembered for being kind and thoughtful. He was frequently willing to assist others such as the time he helped a lady who had fallen down in the street, or the time he helped build a gazebo for his sister’s wedding, or when he would offer his only coffee to a stranger. David never tired of thanking people, even those who had done the smallest thing to assist him.
We are certain his amazing energy and humorous spirit will live on in all of us, as he will forever be remembered and deeply missed by his family, friends, co-workers, and everyone who had the pleasure of interacting with him. Those who had the privilege of knowing Dave loved his sharp wit and hilarious comebacks, as he enjoyed nothing more than to succeed in making others laugh. The doctors and nurses that he came in contact with in the past year were delighted with his comments and happily played along.
The family would like to thank the oncology medical team at the Ottawa General Hospital Cancer Center in Ottawa, Ontario for the excellent care that David received when he had surgery and treatments. The family would also like to thank the compassionate and supportive palliative care team who appreciated how special our David was, as well as the doctors and nurses in the Oncology Unit at the QEII Hospital in Halifax, Nova Scotia, along with the Medical A unit at the Valley Regional Hospital in Kentville, Nova Scotia for their kind nursing care.
