OBITUARY
Dan Yuen Eng
November 21, 1936 – December 4, 2018
Dan Yuen Eng passed away on December 4, 2018, at the age of 82. Born in Canton Province in China in 1936, Dan came to Vancouver, Canada in 1952 at the age of 16. He and his wife, Wai You (“Helen”), operated Everbest Grocery for 34 years from 1960 until his retirement in 1994. He was a fixture in the Commercial Drive community where his regular customers embraced him and his charming nature. Those customers became long-time friends who watched Dan and Helen’s three children grow up in front of them while they helped with the family business.
In retirement, he was the ultimate loving grandfather who had the deepest of bonds with his grandchildren who adored him as he spent most of his days helping to raise them. He took great joy in being a doting grandpa in every way possible (e.g., babysitting, cooking, attending school events, picking and dropping off grandkids for school, and frequently taking his grandkids to the local 7 Eleven and McDonald’s for treats). A fantastic gardener and cook, in his retirement years, he loved to make delicious meals for his family – especially during holidays and family celebrations.
Dan is survived by his wife, Helen, son Tom (Suzanna), daughter Liane (Gale), son Garry (Tonia), grandsons George, Daniel, Andrew, and Tyson, and granddaughters Kaia and Anika.
Dan will also be remembered by his extended family (and their children) who he helped to enter into and settle in Canada.

A celebration of Dan’s life will be held at 1 pm, on Monday, December 17, at the Ocean View Funeral Home, 4000 Imperial St., Burnaby B.C. Any donations in memory of Dan can be made to the Burnaby General Hospital Foundation 3935 Kincaid Street, Burnaby, V5G 2X6 (www.bhfoundation.ca).
