Curtis Stanley
1923-2018
Surrounded by his loving family,
Curtis Guilford Stanley, age 94, of Keirsteadville NB, passed away on
Thursday, June 7 2018 at the Sus Health Centre. He was born and
raised in Hampton NB, in 1923 to the late Milton and Mildred
Stanley.
He was baptized at the age of fourteen and later became a deacon and a
Sunday School Superintendent at the Kiersteadville United Baptist
Church.
After his marriage to Arlene Mildred Stanley (Edgar) in 1945, Curtis
moved his wife to the 300 acre farm on the Rogers road, in which they
lived from 1945 to 1951. At the farm he had two horses named
« Bell and Frank, » cows and chickens. He grew
strawberries, oats and worked in the woods, which was his favorite
place to be. He sold the farm and bought his new place on
the Belleisle Bay.
He was the first to sell and service the Pioneer chain saws in New
Brunswick for over 30 years. From 1954 to 1970, he owned and
operated four combines in Southern New Brunswick. He also worked at
McAvitys, Saint John, as a yard supervisor for one winter.
He loved working for his two brothers Murray and Roy in their own body
shops in Hampton. In 1977 he started Stanley Septic Systems
where he designed and manufactured his own concrete septic tanks and
installed them.
Over the years he would buy and sell a lot of wood land in which he
harvested the wood and then sold the land later. Curtis was always an
entrepreneur at heart and a very hard worker; he taught all his kids
the quality of work. His sense of humor and storytelling was always
unique. He loved to step dance even though he was in great pain with
his back in his last year. He really enjoyed going for drives and
talking about all his jobs he had accomplished.
Curtis is survived by his three sons; Wayne Stanley of Quispamsis,
Dave Stanley (Janinne) of Princeton, ON and Wes Stanley (Diane) of
Fort McMurray AB, his two daughters; Donna Pope (Fred) of
Keirsteadville and Ruth Stanley (George) of Sus, two brothers;
Keith Stanley of Rothesay NB and Ronald Stanley of Woodstock NB, three
sisters: Lois Bartlett of St. Stephen, Shirley Flegg (Murray) of
Hatfield Pt. and Glenna Ronson of Ontario; grandchildren:
Shawn, Barry, Dennie, Josh, Jason, Jonathan, Chris, Laurie, Melissa,
Amanda, Connie, Treena, Gregory, Justin, and Jordan;
and great-grandchildren: Emma , Laura , Jack ,
Taylor , Katelyn, Jessica, Evan, Audrey, Tyler, Julianna, Lucas,
Conner, Isabella, Scarlett, Esla, Ava, Cole, Roslyn, Violet, Amanda
and Lindsay. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife
Arlene (Edgar) Stanley, brothers; George, Murray and Roy and sisters;
Lillian, Evelyn, Jean, Rita and twin sisters Marjorie and
Margaret.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home
(506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB, where visitation will
be held on Sunday, June 10, 2018 from 2-5 and 6-8 pm. A Celebration of
Curtis’s Life will be held 11:00 am Monday, June 11th 2018
at the Keirsteadville United Baptist Church. Interment will be in the
Keirsteadville Cemetery.
A special thank-you to Daeka Special Care Home in Hampton for being
his home away from home in his last year as well as to the staff and
workers at the Sus Health Centre, Family Medicine Division Room 10;
your kindness and companionship will always be
remembered.
