Cecil Fenton
Fenton, Cecil Carvell, 82
passed away peacefully, January 17, 2018 in the QE11 Health
Sciences Centre, VG site, Halifax, NS.
Cecil was born, the youngest of seven children to Hadley and
Hazel (Josee) Fenton in Country Harbour, Nova Scotia, July 14,
1935.
He is survived by his wife, Janet, of 53 years, his daughter
Shauna, her husband Tim Slauenwhite, and his son, Carvell and wife
Lynette (Pardy) Fenton, and grandchildren, Hannah, Rachael and
Isabell. Also by his sisters, Audrey Langley, Phyllis Jennings, and
Doreen (Bill) Webber and brother Kenneth, brothers and sisters-in-law,
nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews and dear friends that are
like family. Gone on before him were his brother Lloyd and sister
Daisy Sutherland, brothers-in-law, Wilfred Langley and
Malcom Jennings and nephews Claude Langley and Brent
Sutherland.
Cecil moved to New Glasgow to work with Eastern Woodworkers
at 16 years of age. Cecil also worked as carpenter, foreman and
Millwork Estimator at Lenargo Industries for many years and later as
Project Manager with the Pictou Regional Housing Authority. Cecil was
an accomplished carpenter, mechanic, and musician and an avid
gardener, outdoorsman and participant in his church community, the
former Calvary Temple in New Glasgow. He loved his time
spent in each of these pastimes and with all those who enjoyed them
with him. You were all very special to him.
These details of Cecil’s life can only begin to tell you
about the man he was. Cecil was a faithful and loving husband to his
wife, a patient and steady guide to his children, a wise and
disciplined mentor to his students, a competent and calming influence
to his coworkers, a valued and caring man to his friends and a
faithful and honorable servant to his Lord.
Cecil demonstrated quiet integrity and righteousness to those
who watched his life. He taught many of us who God is and on what we
should base our lives (God’s Word). If you loved Cecil, perhaps you
should consider knowing His Savior. Cecil’s life is not over. He has
moved to his heavenly home and he will want to see you
again.
« He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does
the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk
humbly with your God. » Micah 6:8.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the doctors
and staff of the Pictou County Health Authority, especially Dr. Gregor
MacLean for many years of care, to Dr. Onn Yik-Yong for his compassion
that went above and beyond, to the Cobequid Health Centre and EHS
staff, to the many VON nurses and workers from Bayshore who touched
our lives, and to Community Care. Many thanks to Dr. Ismail Sharif,
Dr. Kenneth West, Dr. S. Gabrielle Horne for their excellent
care. Gratitude is also extended to Barbara Stewart, Carolyn
Kelly, Dr. Erin Gorman-Corsten, Dr. David Dupere, Dr. Robert Horton of
the Palliative Care Community team and all the residents, nurses and
care providers of the Palliative Unit of the QEII. Your competence,
care and compassion mean more than words can say.
There will be no visitation at the request of the
family.
Private family interment will take place by the
graveside at a later date.
Donations in Cecil’s memory can be made to the
Gideons International or to the Cobequid Health Centre
Foundation.
