With great sadness we announce that a beautiful man has left us. Pius passed on Saturday, September 15, 2018 in the Nelson Hospital.
He will be dearly missed by lots of family and friends. He is survived by his wife, Jackie. He leaves behind his daughter Debbie (Bob) Anderton, his sons Stephen (Mel) Bueler, Brian (April) Bueler, grandchildren, Ryan (Kelsey), Nicki (Bob), Sherri (Brian), Shauna (Colin), Simone, Kevin, Amanda (Nick), Jessie (Brei), grandchildren, Makayla, Dylan, Keira, Brooklyn, Alexandrea, Austin and his beloved cat in Bullet. He also leaves behind his sisters, Elizabeth & Josie of Switzerland, and numerous nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by his father Pius Bueler-Hefner and mother Josefina Bueler-Hefner and his brothers, Joseph, Emil, and Walter.
Pius was born in Galgenen, Switzerland on August 22, 1931. Pius traveled by boat to Canada in March, 1952, not knowing how to speak a word of English. He travelled west, until he found the Kootenays, where he fell in love with the beauty, which reminded him of his homeland. Pius worked as a Cook with Kootenay Forest Products until 1981 at which time he semi-retired. He loved gardening and was very good at it. Pius started growing radishes and green onions, which he sold to Quality Produce in Nelson. He also chopped kindling, putting them into bundles and sold them to many resorts in and around Banff and Lake Louise. Many of you may remember his famous meat pies. They were so good — he could not keep up with the orders and had to make the decision to just make them for the family. He also enjoyed his time with friends having coffee at Drifters and sharing the news of the Valley. He loved the Kootenays!!
We would like to say thank you to the ambulance attendants, Doctors & Nursing staff in Kaslo & Nelson, Sarah at Thompson Funeral Services and our many friends for all support and kindness during this difficult time.
Please join us for a Celebration of Life to be held at the Lardeau Valley Community Hall, Hwy 31, Meadow Creek, BC on Saturday, October 6th, 2018 @ 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.
