Brent Barnes
“We’re here for a good time…not a long time. So have a good time. The sun don’t shine everyday.”
On Sunday, December 30, 2018 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Kitchener,Ontario, Brent Barnes’ sun stopped shining. His wife, Joyce Barnes lost her husband, best friend and soul mate. Mike & Mary Jo Marshall lost their best friend and have and will continue to care for Joyce to share his sunshine. Brent was born in Hamilton, Ontario, September 17, 1952 to Frank &Isabelle Barnes. Brent, Frank & Isabelle moved from Smithville, Ontario when he was 5 years old to begin their life in their beloved Arthur, On. Frank & Isabelle owned & operated Barnes’ Groceteria and taught Brent the values of hard work and community involvement.
Brent & Joyce were married on August 9, 1975 and their love story began… loving, laughing together and making beautiful memories.
Brent’s other love was his community and desire to make the world a better place. He did this through many achievements. He was a volunteer Fire Fighter from 1972 – 2007, serving as Fire Chief from 1996-2007, and helping to plan and build, in 2002, the present Arthur & Area Fire Station. Brent was a proud and active member of the Arthur Lions Club for 40 years, receiving the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award for humanitarian service in the community. He loved organizing the Arthur Lions Take Out Chicken Barbeques and fundraising for the new Groves Hospital in Fergus. He enjoyed the many friendships and activities of the Arthur Lions Club. Brent loved his sports of hockey, lacrosse and baseball. He was and will always be a #1 Boston Bruins Fan. His third love was his cottage at Lake Conestoga where Brent & Joyce relaxed, entertained and made some cherished memories.
Brent was predeceased by his parents Frank & Isabelle(nee Campbell) Barnes, his mother-in -law Doris McIver, his sister-in-law Nancy Southern and many friends whose sun also stopped shining too quickly in life.
He is survived by his wife Joyce Barnes, his best friends Mike & Mary Jo Marshall and their children and grandchildren, his sister-in-law Marg McIver, his brother-in-law Keith Southern and many nephews & nieces.
So world… for Brent, continue to have a good time everyday.
The family will receive friends at the Arthur Community Center, 158 Domville Street, Arthur on Friday January 4, 2019 from 1 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held in the Arthur Community Center, Arthur on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. Spring interment in Greenfield Cemetery, Arthur.
As expressions of sympathy donations to Groves Memorial Hospital Foundation, Ronald McDonald House or Sick Kids Hospital would be appreciated by the family and can be made through the Crawford Funeral Chapel Arthur.
