Beth spent her youth in Brandon Man, Halifax NS. She spent her time as a young teenager in Halifax keeping a journal of the second World War and fell in love with history. She married army Capt (Later L/Col) Robert G Edwards in 1955. Together they lived the typical military life, moving to and living in all corners of the World. Later, when Robert was promoted to L/Col, they were Military Attaches in Canadian Embassies in such places as Norway, England, Germany, Denmark, South Africa, India. Nearly 37 years of Military. Beth was well read. A true book worm, right till the end! A self taught historian of the British Empire and a Monarchist who never missed the King or Queen’s Christmas message, right to Christmas 2017. Beth was a member of the King Richard III society and knew he had died a noble death, way before the truth came out, and proper burial of the King happened in 2015. She had hoped to see this day in her life time and she did. After her husband’s passing (2009) she suffered a bad fall in a tomb, while visiting Egypt, and that left her partly disabled. This is how her cousin Jo-Anne entered her life as a caregiver and companion till her passing. Slowly she integrated in with Jo-Anne’s family and stayed with them for the last 5 years of her life. She really enjoyed this new family way of life with the joyful kids at Christmas and the dinners. She took all the good, up’s and down’s that happens in all family lives, with joy and curiosity. In 2014 after suffering a major stroke, she was diagnosed with white brain matter disease and was given only a few months to live. She lived 4 and half more years! She was a generous lady who stepped up to the plate with the Heart and Stroke foundation, the Red Cross and the Salvation Army in the Comox valley.
Beth was predeceased by her husband Robert Edwards, her Mother Olive, her father John Rutter, and her only sibling, Robert Rutter . She is survived by her nephew Scott Rutter (Sechelt BC), cousin June MacDonald (Winnipeg), cousins Debora Chatwin, Don Chatwin, Jerry (Susan) Durnin, sister in law Pat Rutter (Calgary), cousins Allen & Jo-Anne (Durnin) Pelletier, and her new family for the last 9 years Marcel, Chantale, Corrie, Jaxxon, Kate, MacKenzie, Craig and numerous friends from all over the World, whom she kept in touch with right until the end.
Cremation will take place and internment, in the Spring 2019, at the Union Cemetery in Calgary, where she will once again be with her departed loved ones, at the sound of a Scottish Piper which always got her attention. What a beautiful life Beth!
