Albert Gerald Boersen, age 81 of Stratford, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family, at Stratford General Hospital on May 26, 2018. Albert was born in Stoutenburg, Holland on June 16, 1936, son of the late Ysbrand and Adriana Boersen.
Beloved husband of 55 years to Elizabeth Ann Boersen (Van Gestel). Dear brother of Ted, Gerry (Renelda), Henk (Emma), Johan (Viola), Ann Bokkers (Peter), Joan Oud, Alieda Vlasman (Joe). Also survived by sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Judy and Ann Boersen, Anna Terra-Copeland (Don), Joan Wilker (Ross), John Van Gestel (Cathy), Wilma Koch (Charlie) and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brothers John and Tony Boersen, sisters Dora Olsthoorn (Adrian), Betty Gras (Andy), sister-in-law Martina Boersen and brother–in-law Peter Oud.
Albert was very loving and proud of all his children; Brad (Diana), John (Catharine), Wanda Versteegh (Michael), Brenda Chaytor (Brian) and his grandchildren; Josh (Erin), Mathew (Bailey), Melissa (Reid), Andrea (Colton), Brandon, Zachary (Haley), Mackenzie (Kayleigh), Ashton (Kyle), Brett (Julia), Alieda (Ben), Ryan, Skylar, Katelyn. Albert was blessed with many great grandchildren; Abigail, Jack, Blake, Jameson, Norah, Atley and Miles.
Albert worked different construction jobs before he was employed at General Motors in Oshawa, until he married Elizabeth. After marrying they moved to the Stratford area and began his life as a farmer. He was a gifted carpenter and dedicated worker. In his early years farming he would often also do construction work for others in the community. Albert enjoyed helping others and would often help his family well into his retirement. In retirement he would spend his winters in Florida and his summers camping. Albert loved cars, had a strong interest in politics and would stand by his values. Albert demonstrated a hard work ethic and a love of farming which lives on through his children and grandchildren. His love for farming continues on today by his children and grandchildren.
Visitation at the W.G. Young Funeral Home, 430 Huron Street, Stratford on Tuesday, May 29, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 96 Huron Street, Stratford on Wednesday, May 30, at 11 a.m. Rev. Fr. Dick Bester – celebrant. Interment at Avondale Cemetery.
