Obituary Overview
Bollivar, Basil Lorraine
On April 24, 1942 our amazing Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather and Husband was born to Elvard and Myrtle (Mailman) Bollivar of Branch Lahave.
With a very heavy heart on October 30, surrounded by his family, he finally surrendered to his 10 year battle with Dementia.
Basil was a man of many talents. If he couldn’t buy it, he could build it.
In 1962 Basil moved to Halifax to start his life where he began a career in body work at Halifax Chrysler Dodge. There he learned to perfect the craft of body work. Most importantly he met his best friend Avery Harvie. Avery has shown Basil years of love and loyalty. We are so grateful for Avery’s friendship to the very end. Our hearts will forever hold so much gratitude for all you have done and how you made him smile.
In 1973 Basil developed a new interest and took up Carpentry. His career began with Maritime Drywall and shortly after became their foreman.
In 1986 he decided he want to be his own boss and opened his successful company of 23 years, Bollivar Construction Ltd. He will be remembered by all who worked with him by his strong work ethic and pride of workmanship. There was only one way to do things… that was “the right way.”
In 1967… Basil married his best friend and wife of 51 years, Dianne. He was the best provider, husband and friend to her and cherished every moment. Basil was always showing his love with gentle hand and kind words. His best times in life were spent with her by his side and later shared with his children, grand children and Great Grandson. He was extremely proud of his children and his grand children and made sure they knew everyday how much they were loved.
Basil was survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Dianne (Conrad) Bollivar. Debbie( Scott) White, Wanda (Barry) Brann, Kristopher (Amanda) Bollivar, all of Lower Sackville. Grand children- Kaitlyn (Kyle), Kassandra (Brett), Maddison, Tyler, Nate, Macy and Cameron. Great grandson, Landon.
Most of Basil’s family reside in his home town of Bridgewater, with one sibling living away. Rosetta (Mylon) Wentzell of Oshawa, ONT. Ira ( Brenda) Bollivar, Princetta (Terry) McInnis, Lauretta Sarty, Roger ( Sheila) Bollivar. Extended family, Ferne Joudrey, Donna and Gerald Rhodenizer, Marlene and Miro Posa. Along with many nieces and nephews that always adored their “Uncle Basil”. He also had 49 years of friendships made on Ridgeview Drive that he considered to be more like family.
Basil was predeceased by his Brother in law, Arnold Sarty along with his Son in law Scott Kelly.
Since March of 2017…Basil spent the rest of his life in Oceanview Manor in the caring hands of the CCAs, LPNs, and RNs. Not only did the staff take wonderful care of him they too became a part of his family, showing him the love he was shown everyday of his life. For that we are forever grateful.
A Celebration of Life will take place at Atlantic Funeral Homes (Sackville Branch), 125 Sackville Drive, Lower Sackville on Saturday November 3rd from 12:00-2:00 pm with prayers to start at 1 PM. An interment to follow at Oakridge Memorial Gardens with Pastor Brian Johnston officiating.
