It is with immense sadness that we say goodbye to our loving Momma Aurora Lee. She left us peacefully early Monday, April 9, 2018 from the comfort and sanctuary of the home she loved surrounded by her sons, family, and caregivers at the age of 88 years. Beloved wife of Stanley Zazula, she will be dearly missed by her sons Kerry (Jacqueline), and Yuri (Joann), self-proclaimed Mamma’s boys, and several nieces and nephews. Aurora was predeceased by her husband Stan and her first born son Kim Spencer Zazula; her parents Sabatino and Olympia Onofri; her five lovely sisters, baby Irene, Alba, Dana, Rita, and Serena; plus several brothers and sisters in law, cousins, and dear friends. Aurora was born in Drumheller, AB spending many fond hours with her parents and sisters, playing in the Badlands and working in town. She met a young scamp who drove a Harley Davidson and was working firing boilers in the coalmines of Drumheller who just happened to be boarding with the Onofri family. Aurora became smitten and as they say the rest is history. After following Stan across the US and western Canada for work they settled in Calgary in the late 50’s and started a family. Being so proud of her Italian family from Antrodoco, Lazio Italy and Drumheller and her heritage, she did her best to cherish and keep up traditions of her culture speaking the language when she could. She loved all the pretty things in life, flowers, art, sculpture, ornate objects, fine furniture, jewellery, crystal, chandeliers and flickering candle light. Her passion was collecting antiques and fine pieces of all sorts, clothing and shoes. Momma was in her glory when operating her boutique The Cock-A-Too in the uptown 17th avenue area for 40 years. Keeping an eye out for and helping all or any wayward soul that fell into her life. Her other love was taking care of all her boys, even the dogs, the whole family, and extended family. Heartbreakingly she closed her shop in 2006, spending the rest of her life in her home surrounded by the collectables and furniture that brought her so much comfort and joy. Mom loved to decorate her house, cook traditional delights, and host the holidays she enjoyed so much. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. James Catholic Church (5504 20 Street SW) on Tuesday, April 26, 2018 at 2:00 pm. Photos, memories and condolences may be shared with Aurora’s family through www.evanjstrong.com. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to Alzheimer’s Society of Canada (20 Eglinton Avenue W., 16 Floor, Toronto, ON, M4R 1K8; 416-488-8772; alzheimer.ca/en/Home). in care of EVAN J.
