Arthur LaPointe
It is with sadness that we, the Family announce the passing of our Father, Arthur Lapointe, husband of the late Greta Gagne on Wednesday, May 2nd, 2018 at the age of 96 at the Robert L. Knowles Veterans’ Unit in Bathurst.
Born in Lorne, he was the son of the late Joseph Lapointe and the late Eva Hickey. He leaves in mourning two sons: Colman (Sandra) of Nash Creek and Ronnie (Patricia) of Bathurst. Three daughters, Claudette O’Brien (Alzear) of Lorne, Norma Lapointe-Driscoll (Maynard, deceased) and Alva Lapointe-Carrier (Fernand, deceased) of Miramichi. Nine grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. One sister Adeline of Rimouski, Que., and three brothers: Peter of Lorne, Celestin of Montreal, Que. and Clarence of Rothesay, N. B. He was predeceased by three sons, Allen, Valmond and Elvis, two brothers, Angus and Zoel, and three sisters, Evangeline, Blanche and Eleanore.
Arthur was a veteran of the Second World War with the North Shore Regiment, where he served in Canada and Europe. Upon leaving the Army, he worked as a Lookout Observer for Forestry N. B., a Woodsman, School bus driver and later as a Logging Contractor and truck driver.
Arthur loved taking drives in the forest and small excursions in his beloved half-ton trucks. He loved visiting with his children and grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by his children who loved him dearly.
His funeral will be held from St. Maria Goretti Church Lorne, Tuesday, May 08, 2018 at 2 PM. Legion members Branch 77 Durham and other Branch members are invited to assemble at the church at 1:45 for a legion service.
The family wishes to thank the Doctor and the personnel of the Robert L. Knowles Veterans’ Unit for their care, kindness and support, and also to MacMillan’s Funeral Home.
