Anna Curtis-Steele 19502018 avis de deces

It is with heavy hearts that
the family of Anna Curtis-Steele announces her sudden passing on
Tuesday, December 17, 2018.
Anna was born on October 29, 1950, in Sydney and was an
active and respected member of her beloved Cape Breton community. She
was an advocate for social justice and tirelessly campaigned for
causes near and dear to her heart. She was passionately involved with
improving healthcare in Cape Breton, as well as previously with the
Cape Breton District Labour Council, the Bras d’Or
Stewardship, the Margaree Salmon Association, the YMCA and the Cape
Breton Dragon Boat Festival. Anna further demonstrated her devotion to
Cape Breton through her long-standing involvement in local politics,
running for MP, MLA and Mayor, following in the footsteps of her
grandfather’s political career in Victoria County. She was
also passionate about the environment and was recognized and sought
out in her career as Inspector Specialist, CET with the Nova Scotia
Department of the Environment for her technical expertise and
exceptional ability to lead, teach, communicate and
advocate.
Those who knew Anna knew that she was as beautiful on the
inside as she was on the outside. She had a tremendous love of family
and was always willing to help those she cared for in any way
possible. Anna’s door was always open, often with the scent
of her renowned homemade bread wafting through the air. Her home was
often filled with barreling laughter over a good joke or a heated
debate about a recent political topic. Anna also took great pride in
her beloved garden and often shared her expertise, as well as her
plants, with family and friends. She found peace in gardening and
nature, as well as in painting, sewing and cooking.
Above all, Anna was an exceptionally loving and supportive
mother. Her pride and joy were her two sons, Mark and Robbie, who
meant the world to her.
She will be greatly missed by her son, Mark Jonath Steele and
Crystal Dicks, whom she considered to be her adoptive daughter;
siblings, Dan Curtis, Linda Fougere (Tony), Joan MacNeil (Mik),
Marilyn Feldman (Don), Chris Curtis, Loretta Beck and George Curtis
(Lorna). Anna also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family
and friends.
Anna was predeceased by her son, Stanley Robert
« Robbie » Steele; father, Leo Curtis; and mother, Kathleene
« Kaye » Curtis.
Visitation will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel, 49 Welton
Street, Sydney on Friday, December 21 from 5-8 p.m. A mass to
celebrate Anna’s life will take place at St.
Theresa’s Church on Saturday, December 22 at 10 a. m., with
Rev. Dennis Lamey officiating. She will be laid to rest alongside her
son, Robbie at Resurrection Cemetery, as per her
wishes.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one’s
choice.
We will forever miss your strength, compassion, and positive
spirit. We love you, Anna and you will forever be in our
hearts.
