OBITUARY
Andrew Harold Birch
October 8, 1962 – September 10, 2018
On Monday September 10, 2018 Andy passed away peacefully at home at the age of 55.
He was predeceased by his parents Jacqueline and Dennis as well as his brother Dave. He was also predeceased by his best friend, Duke his dog.
Growing up in Fort Garry Andy quickly developed a love for sports which continued throughout his life. If there was a sport to play, he played it. His talent was exceptional. He received an Athlete of the Year Award at Vincent Massey in grade 11 which normally went to a grade 12 athlete. His baseball, hockey, football, and track skills carried over later in life to racquetball, golf, darts and squash in which he was provincially ranked.
Birchy (as known to his friends) spent 20 years working at the Manitoba Liquor Commission through which he developed the skills and knowledge to become a power engineer. After leaving the MLCC, he established himself as a skilled contractor. He took great pride in his work as evidenced by the many renovation projects he completed.
Andy had the gift of gab and was never afraid to share his opinion and engage in lively debate over the latest health trend, sports match, investment opportunity – pretty much any topic was fair game.
Birchy had a huge heart and an immense love of life, gardening and animals. He will be fondly remembered and deeply missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, September 17, 2018 from 4:00 – 6:00 pm at the Eagle’s Club, 3459 Pembina Hwy.
We would like to thank the oncology department at the Victoria General hospital for their care and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Andy’s memory to Cancer Care Manitoba.
