Amy (Armelle) Marie Main passed away Wednesday, May 23, 2018.
Amy is survived by her beloved husband David, her sisters: Odette & her children Guy, Lizanne & Joanne; Vivianne and her children Allison, Debbie, Allan, & Michael; Roberte and her children Warren, Chantal, Elizabeth and Patrick; sister-in-law Simone, and all her children and many more nephews and nieces.
Amy was born in New Liskeard, ON (near North Bay), one of eight children (seven sisters & one brother). Amy grew up on a dairy farm and as was tradition of the day, she and her siblings actively participated in all aspects of this type of farming.
After completing high school in the area, Amy moved to North Bay and it was there she met and became romantically involved with David, whom she married. In 1971, Amy & David relocated to Winnipeg, where Amy completed her education at technical school. On graduation, Amy was employed briefly with the Province of Manitoba and immediately thereafter with CMHC. Unfortunately, after approximately 19 years, Amy’s career was interrupted due to medical issues and was obliged to undergo a liver transplant.
Amy served as chair of the Canadian Liver Foundation, Manitoba Chapter, for two years and she interfaced with many liver transplants over the years. Amy often expressed the view that research in finding an alternative to cyclosporin should be pursued because of its side effects on the kidneys.
Amy retired and in spite of her transplant and the consequential side effects of anti-rejection drugs, she was able to maintain a high “Esprit-de-Corps; in retirement, she continued annual summer trips to New Liskeard and from time to time to Toronto to visit family. Additionally, Amy & David spent more than 15 years travelling and sojourning for two months in Mexico, Texas, Arizona, and finally California, thankfully missing the worst part of Winnipeg winters. Amy thoroughly enjoyed belonging to the book club “Lunatic Literaire” enabling her to maintain and enhance the French language; and looked forward to attending the CMHC luncheon group.
We wish to thank the numerous relatives and friends who visited Amy during her stay in palliative care. This was supplemented by the many phone calls from relatives and friends from other provinces and the combination of the two were clearly uplifting and comforting.
While Amy’s earthly stay has closed, we believe her spiritual journey with all-mighty God has now commenced.
Cremation has taken place and Amy has requested no funeral service be held. A private family gathering will be held in the future. If desired, in memory of Amy, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
