With sadness the family of Alton Gano announce his passing at the age of 93 on Monday, September 24, 2018, at the Sundre Seniors Supportive Living Facility.
Alton will be greatly missed by his son, Larry (Joy) and daughter, Lynne (Norm); younger brother, Lloyd (Minnie); four wonderful grandchildren, Janine Cardiff (Chris), Tyson Gano (Elise), Jessica Gano (Lonnie), Troy Gano (Jessica); and ten great-grandchildren, Declan and Callie Cardiff; Tristan, Merit and Ivy Gano; Ruby and William Braybrook; Jasper, Huxley and Tred Gano. Alton was predeceased by his beloved wife, Lorna; his older brother, Bernard; and by a close companion in later years, Helen Liddel.
Alton was born in Sampsonton (now Madden) on March 1, 1925 to parents Burr and Ivy Gano. The family lived and worked on a number of farms in the Madden and Bottrel area and Alton learned to drive a team to work in the fields at an early age. Alton remained in the community and married his beloved Lorna and together they constructed their home and started to build the family farm. Community was very important, and Alton helped in the construction of the Cremona Congregational Church, he was a member of the Modern Woodmen of Alberta, the Cremona Lions Club, the Gold and Silver Club, and the Alberta Cattle Commission. He enjoyed curling in the winter and following grandchildren to their various activities. He was selfless in his dedication to family and so generous with his time whenever a neighbor needed help. His passion however was farming. He loved the land and his cattle, and his memory will live forever on the family farm. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the staff and volunteers at the Rocky View Lodge in Crossfield and the Sundre Seniors Facility for their wonderful care and compassion during Alton’s stay.
A Life Celebration will be held at Cremona Community Hall, 302 Centre St, Cremona, Alberta, on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
