Aleda (Lea) Margret McGee
Aleda (Lea) Margret McGee, age 98, passed away on Friday, October 19, 2018 at the George Boyack Long-Term Care Home in Calgary.
Lea is survived by her three children, Gerald, Carol and Dale; five grandchildren Craig, Allison, Jeffrey, Marc and Cloe; five great-grandchildren Derek, Ryan, Amelia, Lochlan, and Gage; sister and brother in-law Patricia and Dale; and nieces and nephews Norlene, Bob, Hazel, Bruce, Patricia, Brian and Lindsay.
She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years Douglas John; mother and father, Alda and George Hawken and sisters, Ruby, Laura, Margorie, Alma, Jean, and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Lea’s kind spirit and gentle personality shined in her love of children. While raising her own, Lea cared for several foster children in her home until all her kids were in school. She started her career outside of the home in 1964 at the University Hospital in Saskatoon in the pediatric ward where she cared for children and their families for over 2 decades. Mom loved to dance, play cards, garden and summer vacations. Entertaining friends and family gatherings filled her with pride and fond memories.
Our family thanks all the staff at George Boyack who cared for mom, and for all their support and love. Mom was loved by all.
The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 26, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.at Hillcrest Funeral Home Chapel (east on 8th Street, first right past Briargate Road) with interment to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Saskatoon, SK.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation at the University of Saskatchewan. This is a wonderful way to provide lasting remembrance of mom.
