Albert Edgar Chislett
February 24, 1949 – April 08, 2018

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Albert Edgar Chislett, age 69, after a courageous, determined and valiant battle with cancer. Albert passed peacefully away at the Dr. Leonard A. Miller Centre, Palliative Care Unit on April 8, while surrounded by his loving family. He is predeceased by his father, Albert Chislett, and his mother, Ethel May Chislett. Leaving to mourn with heavy hearts and wonderful memories are his loving life partner for 30 years, Sherry Doyle; his beloved children: Bradley, Emily and Rebecca Chislett; grandchildren, Julia and Jacob Chislett; sister, Daphne Chislett; brother, David Chislett (Debbie); nephews Jason Chislett (Kelly) and Todd Welsh; nieces Betty Kearley (Carl), Barbara Philpott (Barry) and Jaime Gregory (Todd); in-law parents Bill and Betty Doyle; as well as a large circle of extended family, friends and business associates. The family would like gratefully to acknowledge the care and compassion of Dr. Herbert Newton (Florida Hospital), Dr. Christopher Duhon (Seattle), Dr. F.K. Essaji, Dr. Dawn Armstrong, Dr. Brian Ramjattan, and Dr. Susan McDonald, as well as the dedicated service of nurses Sherene Jackson and Karen Kaine and the holistic advice of Marie Josee Brown during the course of Al’s illness. We are also grateful for the compassionate care demonstrated by the nursing staff at 4NB Health Science Complex and the Dr. Leonard A. Miller Centre’s Palliative Care Unit during Al’s last days. Albert was born in Islington, Trinity Bay on February 24, 1949 and as a child loved fishing, animals and the Newfoundland outdoors. He went on to earn a diploma in business administration at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute and pursued careers in accounting and construction until he decided to change direction and pursue a career in prospecting. His tireless work ethic and entrepreneurial energy and vision led to his discovery of the world-class Voisey’s Bay nickel-copper-cobalt mine along with his business partner Chris Verbiski. A strong, self-reliant man and fearless fighter, Albert believed passionately in the resource potential of Newfoundland & Labrador and dedicated his prospecting career to creating economic opportunities that would help build prosperity for Newfoundlanders & Labradorians. He loved walking in the woods with his dog Blaze, watching Clint Eastwood movies, talking politics, having a good cup of tea with blueberry crisp, and spending quiet time with his family and friends.
