Aileen Patricia MacLean
1925-2018
Curler, Dancer, Devoted Wife and Mother.
It is with great sadness that the family announces the
peaceful passing of Aileen Patricia MacLean in her 93rd year on
Wednesday, March 14th, 2018.
She will be deeply missed by her children David (Kim), Brian
(Sandra), Douglas (Barbara) and Joanne (Maureen); her grandchildren
Jessica, Kathleen (Tony), Andrew, Duncan, Michael, Alexandra and
Jennifer; and her great-grandchildren Orrin, Braelyn, Norah and
Duncan. Mom has gone to join the love of her life Dr. Angus MacLean,
who predeceased her in 2010.
Born on May 19th, 1925, in Outremont Quebec, Aileen lived her
early years in a happy family with her parents Jimmie and Cissy Greer,
big brother Bob and big sister Cicely. She was a good student and an
avid dancer, and memories of her early life always touched on dance
class, school and play with her close friends in this suburb of
Montreal. She was educated and certified as a school teacher at McGill
University, and there she met Angus MacLean; they married in August
1948.
Her busy life included a career as the first art teacher in
Fredericton schools, although that career was shortened by the arrival
of family. She always made sure that she had time for her family, for
dancing, for curling, for a special summer home on Maquapit Lake and a
social life with friends. An avid curler at the Capital Winter Club
for many years, she was President of the Canadian Ladies Curling
Association in 1985. Charming, elegant, outgoing and social, her sunny
disposition and positive outlook on life continued through all her
days. She will be missed by those whose life she
touched.
A memorial service will be held at Saint Paul’s United Church
in Fredericton at 2:30 pm on Friday, March 16th, 2018. A private
family interment will take place at a later date. No visitation will
be held, but a reception will follow the service. In lieu of flowers,
a donation in remembrance of Aileen may be made to the Alzheimer
Society Canada (alzheimer.ca).
