It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother Adline Harwardt. Adline was born in Mossbank, Saskatchewan, as the 4th of 7 children born to Wilfred Weigelt and Emilia Sonnenberg.
Adline moved to Winnipeg as a young woman, where she met her future husband Edward, a member of the Canadian Armed Forces, in 1951. They married in 1952 in Portage La Prairie, where two of their children, Gary and Judy, were born. In 1958, they moved to France where their third child Cheryl was born. They subsequently moved to Rivers Manitoba and then Cold Lake, where Adline lived for the next 43 years. She moved to Edmonton in 2013 where she lived until her death.
Adline was a dedicated member and volunteer for the Royal Canadian Legion for many years and was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II, Diamond Jubilee medal in 2013. She was an expert seamstress and an avid quilter.
Adline leaves to cherish her memory of her children, Gary (Denise), Judy Burke (Clarence), and Cheryl (Jeannie); as well as grandchildren, Scott Harwardt and Mallory (Max King). She was step-grandmother and beloved “Nanny Addy” to Heidi Wheaton (Tim), Melanie MacDonald (Doug McKinnon); their children, Camdyn, Liam, Reese, Rikki, Claire, Katie, Ava, and Hannah. Adline is also survived by her sisters, Doreen Hogg (Randy), Edna Torgunrud; brother, Erhart Weigelt (Shirley); as well as many cherished nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Emil; sisters, Emma and Helen; and husband of 35 years, Edward, in 1987.
Services will be held Thursday, November 8th at 2:00 P.M. at the Connelly-McKinley Downtown Chapel in Edmonton (10011 – 114 Street), with interment will follow at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be directed to Valour Place (valourplace.ca) or a charity of your choosing.
Nos plus sincères sympathies à la famille et aux amis de Adline Harwardt of Edmonton
